Junior Camp Information
The purpose of Junior Camp is to provide young children with a very fun, positive sports foundation that they can build upon as they get older. Because the kids are 5 and 6, they have had very little experience participating in organized sports. Too often we here about children who have bad first experiences with sports and never want to play again. We created Junior Camp in direct response to this problem.
We teach skills first. Then we play games around the specific skills. When the kids play the actual sport, they have had enough experience to understand and enjoy it. The games are kept very light and fun, with the emphasis always placed on sportsmanship, team-play, participation and fairness. Getting a turn is far more important to us than scoring a point. These are extremely important lessons that children must learn through their experiences in sports.
Here are the answers to some of the questions most often asked about the Junior Camp Program:
ARE THE HOURS THE SAME?
Yes. There is no half-day program. The differences are that their play periods are slightly shorter, the rest periods slightly longer, and there is a 40 minute period each afternoon where the kids spend some time in the classroom doing activities such as playing board games and making art projects. The junior campers also eat lunch at 11:40- twenty minutes earlier than the older kids-which allows them to have free time in the gymnasium while the older kids eat lunch.
ARE THE ACTIVITIES THE SAME?
Yes, but basketball to a 5 year old is much different than basketball to a 10 year old. We assume the child has very little, or no experience, in Junior Camp- how much experience can they have at 5 years old- so the sports are introduced at a very basic level. Our initial focus is making the children comfortable with the skills, so they have a positive experience when they play the game. Please see the Junior Camp Overview for more information.
MY CHILD DOESN'T HAVE MUCH EXPERIENCE, WILL HE/SHE BE ALL RIGHT?
Yes. Prime Time Sports Camp is a great way for your child to gain experience. Our 6:1 child-staff ratio allows us to match your child with other children of similar experience levels, in a very small, non-competitive group environment. We feel that this is the best way for kids to become comfortable with, and enjoy participating in, sports.
MY CHILD HAS A LOT OF SPORTS EXPERIENCE, WILL HE/SHE BE ALL RIGHT?
YES. Our 6:1 child-staff ratio allows us to match your child with other children of similar experience levels so that they get the most out of the Prime Time Experience.
DO JUNIOR CAMPERS GO ON FIELD TRIPS?
NO. The junior camp stays on-site at all times. We plan special activities for them on field trip days, such as the Junior Camp Carnvial.
